Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy

1. Purpose of the RPL Policy

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy of HDI CAMPUS is established to formally recognize prior learning, professional experience, and competencies acquired through non-formal and informal learning pathways. The policy ensures that eligible learners are granted appropriate academic credit without compromising university standards, academic integrity, or degree quality.

This policy supports lifelong learning, flexible access to higher education, and accelerated academic progression while remaining aligned with international higher-education frameworks such as LMD / ECTS.

2. Scope of the Policy

  • Bachelor’s Degree Programmes (including BBA and related disciplines)
  • Applicants seeking credit exemptions, advanced standing, or accelerated completion
  • Local and international students, including working professionals

RPL may be applied for:

  • Entry eligibility
  • Credit exemptions for specific modules
  • Reduction of programme completion period (Fast-Track pathway)

3. Definition of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal academic process through which an institution evaluates and recognizes:

  • Prior formal learning (certificates, diplomas, incomplete degrees)
  • Non-formal learning (professional courses, training programmes)
  • Informal learning (work experience, professional practice, self-directed learning)

RPL does not reduce academic standards; rather, it maps prior learning against the learning outcomes of the programme.

4. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants may apply for RPL if they meet one or more of the following:

  • Possession of recognized secondary or post-secondary qualifications
  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant work experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated supervisory, managerial, or professional responsibilities
  • Adequate language proficiency and digital literacy to engage in degree-level study

Each application is assessed individually.

5. Evidence Required for RPL Assessment

HDI CAMPUS adopts a flexible evidence-based approach. Employer-issued experience letters are not mandatory.

Acceptable evidence includes:

  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Statement of Professional Experience (self-declared, institution template)
  • Academic certificates and transcripts
  • Job descriptions, appointment letters, promotion records (if available)
  • Pay slips, staff ID cards, contracts, or alternative supporting documents (optional)

All submitted evidence must be truthful and verifiable.

6. RPL Assessment Process

  1. Submission of RPL Application with supporting documents
  2. Academic Mapping of prior learning against programme learning outcomes
  3. Evaluation by Academic Panel appointed by HDI CAMPUS
  4. Credit Exemption Decision recorded module-wise
  5. Notification to Applicant with approved exemptions and remaining credit requirements

The assessment focuses on learning outcomes, not merely time spent in employment.

7. Credit Exemptions and Academic Integrity

  • Total degree credit requirements remain unchanged (e.g., 180 ECTS for Bachelor’s degree)
  • RPL credits + earned credits must equal the full programme requirement
  • RPL may grant exemptions for foundation and introductory modules only
  • Core, advanced, capstone, or research/project modules may require compulsory completion

All exemptions are clearly indicated in academic records.

8. Fast-Track / Accelerated Completion Pathway

Eligible candidates may complete the remaining required credits within an accelerated timeframe.

Indicative Completion Period:

  • Standard duration: 3 academic years
  • Accelerated completion: 6–12 months, subject to:
    • Approved RPL credit exemptions
    • Completion of all remaining required credits
    • Academic panel approval

The accelerated period represents the credit completion phase, not a reduction of degree standards.

9. Academic Records and Certification

  • Transcripts will clearly state:
    • Credits awarded through RPL
    • Credits earned through study at HDI CAMPUS
  • Degree certificates do not differentiate between RPL and non-RPL pathways
  • All graduates are awarded the same academic qualification upon fulfillment of requirements

10. Quality Assurance and Compliance

This RPL policy is aligned with:

  • Institutional academic regulations
  • LMD / ECTS credit frameworks
  • International best practices in higher education

HDI CAMPUS reserves the right to:

  • Amend this policy to maintain academic standards
  • Request additional evidence where necessary
  • Reject applications that do not meet academic integrity requirements

11. Final Authority

All RPL decisions are subject to approval by the HDI CAMPUS Academic Panel. The panel’s decision is final and binding.
